Вежа між двома морями

Поллі повернулася в місто. На пагорбі поруч із храмом стоїть висока дзвіниця. Це копія славетної вежі у Венеції. Її збудували понад чотириста років тому.

Polly went back to town. On the hill stands a tall bell tower next to the church. It is a copy of the famous tower in Venice. It was built more than four hundred years ago.

Усередині сто сорок шість дерев'яних сходинок. Поллі стрибала по кожній сходинці. Нагорі висіли великі дзвони. Вітер пахнув сіллю.

Inside there are one hundred and forty-six wooden steps. Polly hopped up every step. At the top hung the big bells. The wind smelled of salt.

Місто лежало під нею. Помаранчеві дахи спускалися до моря. Біла площа сяяла, як маленький місяць. З одного боку було тільки синє море.

The town lay below her. Orange roofs ran down to the sea. The white square shone like a little moon. On one side there was only blue sea.

З другого боку, далеко, біліли соляні поля. Вода з одного боку, сіль з другого. Мартин мав рацію. Сіль збудувала це місто.

On the other side, far away, the salt pans shone white. Water on one side, salt on the other. The gull was right. Salt built this town.
