День був спекотний і тихий. Увечері басейни були гладкі й спокійні. Поллі стояла на краю басейну й чекала.

The day was hot and still. In the evening, the pools were flat and quiet. Polly stood at the edge of a pool and waited.

Потім на воді виросли тонкі білі кристали. Вони були схожі на іній. Робітники називають їх квіткою солі. Вони бувають тільки в тихі теплі дні. Це найкраща сіль.

Then thin white crystals grew on the top of the water. They looked like frost. The workers call them the flower of salt. They come only on calm, warm days. This is the finest salt of all.

Прийшов робітник із тонкою сіткою на довгій дерев'яній рамі. Він дуже обережно зібрав білі квіти. Поллі сиділа на кінці рами й дивилася.

A worker came with a fine net on a long wooden frame. He lifted the white flowers very gently. Polly sat on the end of the frame and watched.

Сонце сіло. Басейни стали рожеві й помаранчеві. Маленький кристалик лежав на пір'їнці Поллі. Вона скуштувала його. Він був на смак як море і сонце.

The sun went down. The pools turned pink and orange. One tiny crystal sat on Polly's feather. She tasted it. It tasted of the sea and the sun.
