Menara di Antara Dua Laut

Polly kembali ke kota. Di atas bukit ada menara lonceng yang tinggi di samping gereja. Menara itu tiruan dari menara terkenal di Venesia. Menara itu dibangun lebih dari empat ratus tahun yang lalu.

Polly went back to town. On the hill stands a tall bell tower next to the church. It is a copy of the famous tower in Venice. It was built more than four hundred years ago.

Di dalamnya ada seratus empat puluh enam anak tangga kayu. Polly melompat naik setiap anak tangga. Di atas tergantung lonceng-lonceng besar. Anginnya berbau garam.

Inside there are one hundred and forty-six wooden steps. Polly hopped up every step. At the top hung the big bells. The wind smelled of salt.

Kota itu ada di bawahnya. Atap-atap jingga turun sampai ke laut. Alun-alun putih bersinar seperti bulan kecil. Di satu sisi hanya ada laut biru.

The town lay below her. Orange roofs ran down to the sea. The white square shone like a little moon. On one side there was only blue sea.

Di sisi lain, jauh sekali, ladang garam bersinar putih. Air di satu sisi, garam di sisi lain. Camar itu benar. Garamlah yang membangun kota ini.

On the other side, far away, the salt pans shone white. Water on one side, salt on the other. The gull was right. Salt built this town.
