Jedno zrno soli

Posljednjeg jutra Polly je odletjela na kraj grada. Ondje uz more, pokraj okrugle crkve, stoji mali bijeli svjetionik. Odavde je grad opet izgledao kao brod.

On her last morning, Polly flew to the end of the town. A small white lighthouse stands there by the sea, next to a round church. From here, the town looked like a ship again.

Ribarski brodovi napuštali su luku jedan za drugim. Zvono na tornju zvonilo je iznad krovova. Na trgu je čovjek s violinom stajao sam u prvom svjetlu.

The fishing boats left the harbour one by one. The bell in the tower rang over the roofs. On the square, the man with the violin stood alone in the first light.

Polly je još osjećala okus jednog zrna soli. Napravili su ga more, sunce i strpljive ruke, na isti način više od sedamsto godina. Sol je sagradila ovaj bijeli grad.

Polly still tasted one grain of salt. Sea, sun and patient hands made it, the same way for more than seven hundred years. Salt built this white town.

Jednom je obletjela grad. Onda se podigla na jutarnjem vjetru. Kameni brod iza nje postao je malen. More pred njom bilo je široko i svijetlo.

She flew once around the town. Then she rose on the morning wind. The stone ship grew small behind her. The sea in front of her was wide and bright.
