The Last Two Gardens in Europe

On a green hill by the sea, rows of tea plants grew in neat lines. Polly landed on a wall and looked at the plants. This is one of only two tea farms left in all of Europe.

Na zelenem griču ob morju so čajevci rasli v lepih vrstah. Polly je pristala na zidu in gledala rastline. To je ena od samo dveh čajnih kmetij, ki sta ostali v vsej Evropi.

The farm started in eighteen eighty-three. Before that, the island grew oranges. A disease killed the orange trees. So the growers planted tea instead. They still use the same old machines today.

Kmetija se je začela leta tisoč osemsto triinosemdeset. Prej je otok pridelival pomaranče. Bolezen je uničila pomarančevce. Zato so pridelovalci posadili čaj. Iste stare stroje uporabljajo še danes.

Inside the factory, old machines roll and dry the leaves. Workers pick the young leaves by hand. Young leaves make the best tea. No bad chemicals are used here.

V tovarni stari stroji zvijajo in sušijo liste. Delavci mlade liste nabirajo z rokami. Mladi listi dajo najboljši čaj. Tukaj ne uporabljajo slabih kemikalij.

Polly walked by the tea plants. They smelled like fresh grass. One line of growers has cared for this hill for a very long time.

Polly je hodila ob čajevcih. Dišali so kot sveža trava. Ena družina pridelovalcev skrbi za ta grič že zelo dolgo.
