Carla cuts her hand. She washes dishes at home. She goes to the clinic. She gets a number: forty-seven.

A tela mostra trinta e um. A sala está cheia. Um homem lê uma revista. Um pai segura um bebê. Um adolescente olha o celular.

The screen shows thirty-one. The room is full. A man reads a magazine. A father holds a baby. A teenager looks at his phone.

Os números mudam devagar: trinta e dois, trinta e três, trinta e seis. Eles não seguem a ordem. Carla espera.

The numbers change slowly: thirty-two, thirty-three, thirty-six. They do not go in order. Carla waits.

Depois de uma hora, a tela mostra quarenta e sete. Carla entra. O médico olha a mão dela. "É pequeno," ele diz. "Limpe duas vezes por dia."

After one hour, the screen shows forty-seven. Carla goes in. The doctor looks at her hand. "It is small," he says. "Clean it two times a day."

Carla sai. A sala está quase vazia. O adolescente já foi embora. O bebê está acordado.

Carla leaves. The room is almost empty. The teenager is gone. The baby is awake.
