În Republica Dominicană, prânzul este masa adevărată a zilei, nu cina. Farfuria care sosește are orez alb, fasole roșie înăbușită turnată peste el și o bucată de carne, de obicei pui, cu puțină salată alături și banană verde prăjită dacă ai noroc. Se numește la bandera, adică steagul, pentru că prin culorile de pe farfurie se văd culorile țării. Oamenii o mănâncă aproape în fiecare zi a săptămânii și nu se plictisesc de ea.
