아이스크림에 금을 올리는 도시

이 아이스크림은 진짜 금입니다. 단 것을 좋아하는 친구에게 보내 주세요. 일본에는 가나자와라는 오래된 도시가 있습니다. 거기서 보통 소프트 아이스크림을 사면, 누군가 금 한 장을 통째로 감싸 줍니다.

This ice cream is real gold. Send this to your friend with a sweet tooth. In Japan there is an old city called Kanazawa. You buy a normal soft ice cream there, and then somebody wraps a whole sheet of gold around it.

그 금은 아주 얇게 두드립니다. 머리카락보다 얇습니다. 작은 바람에도 흔들려서, 일하는 사람들은 천천히, 조용히 움직여야 합니다. 그 옆에서는 숨도 크게 못 쉽니다. 일본 금박은 거의 다 이 도시에서 만듭니다. 사람들은 사백 년 넘게 여기서 금박을 만들었습니다.

The gold is beaten until it is very flat. It is thinner than a hair. It moves in the smallest breath of wind, so the workers must be slow and quiet and cannot breathe near it. Almost all of the gold leaf in Japan is made in this one city, and people have made it here for more than four hundred years.

이 금은 먹을 수 있습니다. 금은 안전하고, 맛이 거의 없습니다. 그래서 아이스크림은 그냥 아이스크림 맛이 납니다. 보기에만 보물 같습니다. 사람들이 그것을 들면, 빛이 반짝이고, 거리의 모든 사람이 쳐다봅니다. 그러다 너무 천천히 먹거나 바람이 불면, 금이 스르르 떨어져 길에 굴러갑니다. 그러면 모두 웃습니다.

You can eat it. Gold is safe, and it has almost no taste at all. So the ice cream tastes like ice cream. It only looks like treasure. People hold it up, the light hits it, and the whole street turns to look. Then they eat it too slowly, or the wind finds it, and the gold slides off into the road, and everybody laughs.
