The Lunch a Whole Country Eats

It is just after midday. The street is quiet now. Shops close early for lunch. One small restaurant is full of people.

In the Dominican Republic, lunch is the big meal. The plate has rice, beans, chicken, and salad. People call it la bandera. That means the flag.

În Republica Dominicană, prânzul este masa cea mare. Farfuria are orez, fasole, pui și salată. Oamenii îi spun la bandera. Asta înseamnă steagul.

Timing matters, not the food. At three, the food is gone. Eat when everyone eats. Then have a small coffee and go back outside.

Contează momentul, nu mâncarea. La ora trei, mâncarea s-a terminat. Mănâncă atunci când mănâncă toată lumea. Apoi bea o cafea mică și ieși din nou afară.
