国中が食べる昼食

ちょうど正午を過ぎたところです。今、通りは静かです。お店は昼食のために早く閉まります。小さなレストランが一軒、人でいっぱいです。

It is just after midday. The street is quiet now. Shops close early for lunch. One small restaurant is full of people.

ドミニカ共和国では、昼食が一日で一番大きな食事です。お皿には、ご飯、豆、チキン、サラダがのっています。人々はこれを"ラ・バンデラ"と呼びます。"旗"という意味です。

In the Dominican Republic, lunch is the big meal. The plate has rice, beans, chicken, and salad. People call it la bandera. That means the flag.

大切なのは料理ではなく、時間です。三時になると、料理はなくなります。みんなが食べるときに食べましょう。それから、小さなコーヒーを飲んで、また外に出ます。

Timing matters, not the food. At three, the food is gone. Eat when everyone eats. Then have a small coffee and go back outside.
