한 나라 전체가 먹는 점심

정오가 막 지났어요. 거리는 이제 조용해요. 가게들은 일찍 문을 닫아요. 작은 식당 하나가 사람들로 가득해요.

It is just after midday. The street is quiet now. Shops close early for lunch. One small restaurant is full of people.

도미니카 공화국에서는 점심이 하루 중 가장 큰 식사예요. 접시에는 쌀, 콩, 닭고기, 샐러드가 있어요. 사람들은 이것을 라 반데라라고 불러요. 그것은 깃발이라는 뜻이에요.

In the Dominican Republic, lunch is the big meal. The plate has rice, beans, chicken, and salad. People call it la bandera. That means the flag.

중요한 것은 시간이지, 음식이 아니에요. 세 시가 되면 음식이 다 떨어져요. 모두가 먹을 때 먹어요. 그다음 작은 커피 한 잔을 마시고 다시 밖으로 나가요.

Timing matters, not the food. At three, the food is gone. Eat when everyone eats. Then have a small coffee and go back outside.
