Fil Dağı

Polly, şafakta sakin mavi bir denizin üzerinden uçtu. İleride, uzun bir dağ suyun içinden yükseliyordu. Bu taraftan, uyuyan bir file benziyordu. İnsanlar ona Montgó diyor.

Polly flew in at dawn over a calm blue sea. Ahead, a long mountain rose straight out of the water. From this side it looked like a sleeping elephant. People call it Montgó.

Dağın altında küçük, beyaz bir kasaba vardı. Dar sokakları, kiremit çatıları ve sessiz bir balıkçı limanı vardı. Kasabanın adı Xàbia. Dağ ile deniz arasında duruyor.

Below the mountain sat a small white town. It had narrow streets, terracotta roofs, and a quiet fishing port. The town is called Xàbia, and it sits between the mountain and the sea.

Polly, sırtın üzerindeki sıcak kayaya kondu. Taş, bal rengindeydi. Aşağıya, bütün kıyıya baktı.

Polly landed on the warm rock high on the ridge. The stone was the colour of honey. She looked down at the whole coast.

Güneş, denizin üzerinden doğdu. Işık, dağı ve kasabayı altın rengine çevirdi. Polly, yedi gün kalmaya karar verdi.

The sun came up over the water. The light turned the mountain and the town gold. Polly decided to stay for seven days.
