Voda na dnu

Zadnji del stopnic je drugačen. Skala je zdaj mokra. Temna je in mrzla. Na dnu je majhna jama.

The last part of the steps is different. The rock is wet now. It is dark and cold. At the bottom there is a small cave.

V jami iz skale teče sladka voda. Polly jo pokusi. Mrzla je in sladka. Morje je čisto blizu, ampak ta voda ni slana.

Inside the cave, fresh water comes out of the rock. Polly tastes it. It is cold and sweet. The sea is right there, but this water is not salty.

Na zemljo zgoraj pada dež. Skala tam zgoraj je apnenec. Voda ponikne vanjo. Potuje dol po kamnu in pride ven tukaj.

Rain falls on the land above. The rock up there is limestone. The water sinks into it. It travels down inside the stone and comes out here.

Zdaj Polly razume stopnice. Vojaki jih niso naredili v eni noči. Naredili so jih menihi, počasi, veliko let. Hoteli so to vodo.

Now Polly understands the steps. Soldiers did not make them in one night. Monks made them, slowly, for many years. They wanted this water.
