여름마다 사라지는 호수

이 호수는 일부러 사라져요. 물건을 자주 잃어버리는 친구에게 이 이야기를 보내 보세요. 슬로베니아에는 항상 있지는 않은 호수가 있어요. 겨울에는 나라에서 가장 큰 호수 중 하나예요. 여름에는 사라져요.

This lake vanishes on purpose. Send this to a friend who loses things all the time. In Slovenia there is a lake that is not always there. In winter it is one of the biggest lakes in the country. In summer it is gone.

계곡 아래 땅에는 바위 속에 구멍과 굴이 많아요. 가을에는 물이 이 구멍들로 빠져나가서 계곡이 말라요. 겨울에는 비와 녹은 눈이 같은 구멍을 통해 다시 올라와서 호수가 다시 채워지는데, 때로는 며칠 만에 채워져요.

The ground under the valley is full of holes and tunnels in the rock. In autumn, water drains down through these holes until the valley is dry. In winter, rain and melting snow push back up through the same holes, and the lake fills again, sometimes in just a few days.

물이 많을 때는 사람들이 배를 타고 호수 위의 새를 구경해요. 물이 적을 때는 농부들이 같은 땅에 나가서 건초를 베어요. 옛날 작가들은 이천 년 전에 이 이상한 호수에 대해 글을 썼고, 지금도 방문객들을 여전히 어리둥절하게 해요.

When the water is high, people row boats and watch birds on the lake. When the water is low, farmers walk out and cut hay on the same ground. Old writers wrote about this strange lake two thousand years ago, and it still confuses visitors today.
