Muitas pessoas bebem café de manhã, mas poucas sabem de onde ele vem. O café cresce em uma planta verde com folhas brilhantes. A planta gosta de clima quente perto do meio do mundo. Dizem que as primeiras plantas de café cresceram há muito tempo na Etiópia, na África.
A planta produz frutinhas chamadas cerejas. As cerejas começam verdes e, devagar, ficam vermelhas e brilhantes. Dentro de cada cereja vermelha há duas sementinhas. As pessoas colhem as cerejas maduras à mão e tiram as sementes, que chamamos de grãos de café.
Depois, os grãos verdes secam ao sol por muitos dias. Então as pessoas os torram com calor até ficarem marrom escuro e cheirarem maravilhosamente. Por fim, alguém mói os grãos e acrescenta água quente. Depois de uma longa viagem desde a fazenda, o café está pronto para beber.
