Nos rios do Havaí vive um pequeno peixe chamado goby escalador de pedras. Ele é menor que o seu dedo. Mas esse peixinho faz algo incrível: ele escala cachoeiras.
O goby nasce no rio, lá no alto das montanhas. Depois que sai do ovo, a água leva o peixinho até o mar. Quando fica maior, ele precisa voltar para a água calma lá em cima da montanha. Só existe um caminho: para cima. O goby se segura na pedra molhada com a boca, que funciona como uma pequena ventosa. Ele também tem uma segunda ventosa na barriga. Boca, barriga, boca, barriga. Centímetro por centímetro, ele sobe direto pela pedra atrás da água que cai.
Algumas dessas cachoeiras são mais altas que um prédio de vinte andares. Para um peixe tão pequeno, isso é como uma pessoa escalando uma montanha de muitos quilômetros de altura. O goby não tem pressa. Ele só nunca para.
