Bij een klein meer zag Polly grote potten naast diepe gaten. Een kok deed met een touw een pot in elk gat. Polly keek toe.

In elke pot zat vlees en groente. De grond eronder is heet door de vulkaan. Er is geen vuur. Alleen de warmte van de aarde kookt het eten.

De potten blijven zes of zeven uur in de grond. Mensen gaan intussen wandelen. Daarna komen ze terug voor het avondeten.

Er kwam stoom uit toen de eerste pot openging. Het rook heel lekker. Polly zag de kok hem blij wegdragen.
