صخرة العنكبوت

في اليوم الأخير، طارت بولي مسافة طويلة. ينقسم الوادي إلى فرعين. هناك رأت برجاً عالياً من صخر أحمر، له قمتان في الأعلى.

On the last day, Polly flew a long way. The canyon split into two arms. There she saw a tall tower of red rock with two points on top.

اسمها صخرة العنكبوت. يقول شعب نافاهو إن امرأة العنكبوت تعيش في القمة. يقولون إنها علّمت شعب ديني كيف ينسجون.

It is called Spider Rock. Navajo people say Spider Woman lives at the top. They say she taught the Diné how to weave.

لم تهبط بولي عليها. بعض الأشياء من الأفضل أن ننظر إليها فقط. جلست في الجهة الأخرى وراقبت الضوء. ذهبي، ثم برتقالي، ثم رمادي.

Polly did not land on it. Some things are better to look at. She sat on the other side and watched the light. Gold, then orange, then grey.

غنّى طائر صغير تحتها. عاد الصوت من الجدران. فكرت بولي في الوادي وقتاً طويلاً. ثم طارت نحو الغرب.

A small bird sang below her. The sound came back from the walls. Polly thought about the canyon for a long time. Then she flew west.
