A câmera registrou uma luminescência constante e irregular saindo da pele, mais forte ao redor do rosto. O brilho é um subproduto incidental da química celular comum: reações envolvendo o oxigênio liberam, ao ocorrer, partículas isoladas de luz.
Há um detalhe que explica por que ninguém tinha notado isso antes. A luz é cerca de mil vezes mais fraca do que a coisa mais tênue que um olho humano consegue registrar.
