Fuglen forsvant nesten. Folk så ingen etter nitten hundre og trettito. Så, i nitten hundre og sekstisju, fant folk noen igjen. Men gårdene tok hjemmet dens. Snart var færre enn hundre par igjen. Den er en av Europas sjeldneste fugler.

Folk jobbet hardt for å hjelpe den. De plantet de riktige trærne igjen. Polly så to prioloer fly forbi. Brystet deres lyste mykt rosa.

Polly satt helt stille. Skogen ble stille igjen. Det føltes som en god byttehandel: ro, for en fugl som fortsatt lever.
