两种指甲大小的全新动物

科学家刚刚发现了两种从未被命名过的动物。标记那个以为地球上所有物种都已经被发现的朋友。在黑山共和国的山区，研究人员在搜索石灰岩悬崖时，发现了两种极其微小的蜗牛，后来证实它们是科学界前所未见的全新物种。

Scientists just discovered two animals nobody had ever named. Tag a friend who thinks every species on Earth has already been found. In the mountains of Montenegro, researchers searching limestone cliffs found two tiny snails that turned out to be completely new to science.

每种蜗牛的大小大约只有一枚指甲那么宽，背着一个小小的锥形外壳。它们的尾部长着一块圆形的盖片，作用就像一扇门，蜗牛一缩进壳里，盖片就会立刻把壳口封住，而不是简单的一片薄膜。其中一个物种只生活在一条狭窄的峡谷里，而一座计划中的水坝可能会在科学家研究清楚那里还有哪些生物之前，就把这条峡谷淹没。

Each snail measures about the width of a fingernail and carries a small cone-shaped shell. Instead of a simple flap, each one has a round disk on its tail that works like a door, sealing the shell shut the moment the snail pulls inside. One of the two species lives only in a narrow canyon that a planned dam could flood before scientists finish studying what else lives there.

研究团队以发现地为这两种蜗牛命名，一种以那条峡谷命名，另一种以附近的一处高原命名。研究人员表示，这项发现说明，即便是在地图早已画得清清楚楚的欧洲地区，依然可能有完整的物种，默默无闻地等在某一处悬崖上，尚未被人命名。

The team named the snails after the places where they were found, one after the canyon and one after a high plateau nearby. Researchers say the discovery shows that even in well-mapped parts of Europe, whole species can still be waiting, unnamed, on a single cliff.
