戦争を逃れた町

金沢は海と山の間にある町です。古い中心地の両側に川が流れています。ポリーは灰色の屋根と小さな曲がった道の上を飛びました。それから橋の上に止まりました。

Kanazawa is a city between the sea and the mountains. A river runs on each side of the old centre. Polly flew over grey roofs and small curved streets. Then she sat on a bridge.

日本の古い町は戦争で焼けました。一九四四年と一九四五年に爆弾が落ちました。でも金沢には戦争工場がありませんでした。飛行機は来ませんでした。だから、この古い町は本物です。コピーではありません。

Most old Japanese cities burned in the war. Bombs fell in nineteen forty-four and nineteen forty-five. But Kanazawa had no war factories. The planes never came. So the old city here is real, not a copy.

この町の道は不思議です。曲がって、また戻ります。昔の領主がこう作りました。敵の軍は町の中で道に迷います。

The streets here are strange. They bend and turn back. The old lords made them like this. An enemy army would get lost inside the city.

町の真ん中に低い丘がありました。白い屋根と長い石の壁がありました。有名な庭園がその隣にありました。ポリーはそこへ飛びました。

In the middle was a low hill. It had pale roofs and long stone walls. A famous garden was next to it. Polly flew there.
