Diese Stadt macht fast das ganze Blattgold in Japan. Sie tut das seit vierhundert Jahren. Ein Stück Gold so klein wie eine Münze wird ein Blatt so groß wie eine Tatami. Das Blatt ist so dünn, dass Licht hindurchgeht.
Das Wetter hilft. Blattgold mag keine trockene, bewegte Luft. Hier ist die Luft feucht und still. Auch das Papier ist wichtig.
Niemand darf das Gold mit den Fingern anfassen. Die Arbeiter heben es mit Bambus. Polly stand ganz still.
