Grad na litici

Polly leti prema jugu uz obalu Korzike. Onda otok završi. Pred njom je samo more. Daleko vidi još jedan otok.

Polly flies south along the coast of Corsica. Then the island ends. In front of her there is only sea. Far away she can see another island.

Polly se okrene i vidi grad. Grad stoji na visokoj bijeloj litici. Kuće su visoke i uske. Stoje točno na rubu. Ispod njih litica pada duboko dolje do mora.

Polly turns and sees a town. The town stands on a high white cliff. The houses are tall and narrow. They stand right at the edge. Below them the cliff falls a long way down to the sea.

Polly sleti na stari gradski zid i gleda dolje. Stijena je bijela i suha. Ispod nje lete galebovi. Onda vidi nešto čudno. U liticu je usječena uska crta. U crti su stube.

Polly lands on the old town wall and looks down. The rock is white and dry. Gulls fly below her. Then she sees something strange. There is a narrow line cut into the cliff. Inside the line there are steps.

Stube idu dolje u mrak. Polly ne vidi njihov kraj. Polly će sići tamo dolje.

The steps go down into the dark. Polly cannot see the end of them. Polly will go down there.
