Ein Tisch für eine Person

Mia geht um neun Uhr in ein kleines Restaurant. Der Raum ist fast leer. Ein müder Kellner mit weißer Schürze zeigt auf einen Tisch in der Ecke.

Mia goes into a small restaurant at nine. The room is almost empty. A tired waiter in a white apron points to a table in the corner.

"Nur eine Person?", fragt er. Mia sagt ja. Sie reist immer allein. Sie ist ein bisschen nervös. Die Speisekarte ist ein kleines Stück Papier.

"Just one?" he asks. Mia says yes. She always travels alone. She is a little nervous. The menu is on one small piece of paper.

Mia zeigt auf ein Wort. Sie kennt es nicht. Der Kellner lächelt. "Das Spezialgericht", sagt er langsam. "Das Essen meiner Großmutter. Wenn es dir nicht schmeckt, bringe ich etwas anderes."

Mia points at a word. She does not know it. The waiter smiles. "The special," he says slowly. "My grandmother's food. If you do not like it, I bring something else."

Das Essen kommt in einer schweren Schüssel. Es ist heiß, mit Knoblauch und kleinen Stücken Brot. Mia probiert es. Der Kellner beobachtet sie von der Bar aus.

The food comes in a heavy bowl. It is hot, with garlic and little pieces of bread. Mia tries it. The waiter watches her from the bar.

Mia zeigt ihm den Daumen nach oben. Er lacht und füllt ihr Glas wieder. "Gut", sagt er. "Komm morgen wieder. Dann sage ich dir, was drin ist."

Mia gives him a thumbs up. He laughs and fills her glass again. "Good," he says. "Come back tomorrow. Then I tell you what is in it."
