Llegan los surfistas

El día cinco llegaron los surfistas. Camiones subieron por el camino. Llevaban motos de agua y tablas de surf largas y delgadas. Los perros corrían junto a los camiones. Las gaviotas gritaban en el cielo.

On day five the riders arrived. Trucks came up the road. They carried jet skis and long, narrow surfboards. Dogs ran beside the trucks. Gulls called in the sky.

En el fuerte viejo hay una sala especial. Tablas de surf famosas cuelgan de las paredes. Cada tabla montó una ola gigante aquí. Algunas están rotas, pero también cuelgan ahí.

In the old fort there is a special room. Famous surfboards hang on the walls. Every board rode a giant wave here. Some are broken, but they hang there too.

Por la tarde, todos miraron el mar. Las aves marinas se sentaron en fila sobre el muro. El albatros viejo también estaba ahí. El mar se movía en líneas lentas y pesadas. Mañana llegan los gigantes.

In the afternoon, everyone looked at the sea. Seabirds sat in a row on the wall. The old albatross was there too. The sea rolled in slow, heavy lines. Tomorrow, the giants.

Esa noche Polly se quedó cerca de la lámpara caliente. Las olas sonaban fuerte en la oscuridad. Ella durmió muy poco.

That night Polly stayed close to the warm lantern. The waves boomed in the dark. She slept only a little.
