El acantilado dividía el mar en dos. A un lado estaba el pueblo de Nazaré, con una playa tranquila y pequeños barcos de colores. Al otro lado había una playa larga y salvaje, sin ninguna casa. La gente la llama Praia do Norte, la playa del norte. Esa tarde su agua estaba completamente plana.
Un viejo albatros subió al muro del fuerte con un catalejo bajo el ala. Miró el mar plano durante mucho tiempo. Después dijo, no te fíes de este mar tranquilo, pajarita. Muy lejos, el océano ya se está moviendo. Los gigantes vienen.
El mar parecía muy tranquilo. Pero muy lejos, una gran tormenta empujaba el agua hacia esta costa. Polly se agarró al metal rojo y cálido y decidió quedarse siete días a mirar.
