Cada línea era más alta que la anterior. El estruendo ya no era solo un sonido. Polly podía sentirlo en la piedra y en sus plumas.
Entonces llegó el gigante. A lo lejos, una ola comenzó a levantarse y no dejaba de crecer. Se alzó más alto que un edificio de apartamentos. Era una montaña gris en movimiento, coronada de blanco. Una moto acuática arrastró a un surfista hasta ella. El diminuto jinete bajó volando por la pared de la ola, pequeño como una coma en una página gigantesca.
La ola se dobló y estalló. El agua blanca saltó por encima de todo el acantilado. Una lluvia de espuma fría cayó sobre el fuerte como si fuera lluvia de verdad. La espuma empañó las gafas de Polly. El rugido era como un trueno que nunca terminaba.
Durante toda la tarde siguieron llegando los gigantes. Una multitud de animales se reunió en el promontorio: perros, zorros y gaviotas, todos aplaudiendo cada bajada. La luz se volvió dorada bajo las nubes de tormenta. Polly sostenía el farol rojo, mojada y feliz.
