La collina sopra il villaggio è piena di buchi.
I buchi sono scavati a mano e vanno dritti verso il basso. Dall'alto sembrano monete scure sparse sul pendio verde. Le persone che lavorano lì dicono che ce ne sono circa duemila. Accanto a ogni buco ci sono una corda, una ruota e un secchio.
Qui tutto si fa a mano, e c'è un buon motivo. Il larimar si rompe facilmente. Si trova dentro la roccia antica in piccole tasche. Una macchina lo distruggerebbe. Così i minatori usano picconi e le proprie braccia. La roccia sale nel secchio. Gli uomini scendono con la corda. Gli unici motori sono piccoli generatori, per una luce e per spingere aria giù per un tubo, perché alcuni di questi buchi scendono per più di sessanta metri.
