Kruh Brodgar stojí medzi dvoma jazerami. Kamene tvoria kruh široký asi sto štyri metrov. Ľudia ho postavili asi pred štyritisíc rokmi.

Kedysi tu stálo okolo šesťdesiat kameňov. Dnes ich stojí tridsaťšesť. Polly obišla kruh zvonka. Nikto nezapísal, prečo tam ten kruh je.

Potom bol čas odísť. V prístavnej kancelárii sedel za pultom kormorán. "O koľkej odchádza trajekt?" spýtala sa Polly. "Koľko to stojí?" Potom povedala: "Chcela by som si kúpiť lístok, prosím."

"Ako dlho trvá plavba?" spýtala sa nakoniec. Ráno loď vyplávala popri nízkom výbežku. Ostrovy klesali za ňou, jeden po druhom.
