Ring of Brodgar stojí mezi dvěma jezery. Kameny tvoří kruh široký asi sto čtyři metry. Lidé ho postavili asi před čtyřmi tisíci lety.

Kdysi tu bylo kolem šedesáti kamenů. Třicet šest jich stojí dodnes. Polly obešla kruh zvenku. Nikdo nezapsal, proč ten kruh vznikl.

Pak byl čas odjet. V přístavní kanceláři stál za pultem kormorán. „V kolik hodin odjíždí trajekt?“ zeptala se Polly. „Kolik to stojí?“ Pak řekla: „Chtěla bych si koupit lístek, prosím.“

„Jak dlouho trvá plavba?“ zeptala se nakonec. Ráno loď vyplula kolem nízkého mysu. Orkneje za ní klesaly jeden po druhém.
