Am dritten Tag ging Polly in die Stadt hinunter. Sie fuhr mit der Bergbahn, einem kleinen Zug, der die Klippe hinauf- und hinunterfährt. Polly saß darin und schaute auf die roten Dächer.
Der Strand war voll mit Holzgestellen. Auf den Gestellen lagen viele kleine Silberfische. Sie trockneten in der Sonne. Das ist hier eine alte Tradition.
Frauen wendeten die Fische mit viel Sorgfalt. Jede Frau trug sieben Röcke, einen über dem anderen. Sieben Röcke, wie die sieben Tage der Woche.
Am Abend ging Polly zurück zu ihrer roten Laterne. Die Wellen waren höher als gestern. Jetzt konnte sie sie auch hören.
