Rose-Red Morning

On her last morning, Polly watched the sun climb slowly over the canyon. Its light slid down the great temple bit by bit, and the rose-red stone began to glow as if it were on fire.

En su última mañana, Polly observó cómo el sol subía despacio sobre el cañón. Su luz se deslizaba poco a poco por el gran templo, y la piedra rosada comenzó a brillar como si estuviera en llamas.

High on top of the temple stands a giant stone jar. People once believed that a treasure was hidden inside it. But Polly knew the truth by now. The real treasure is the stone itself.

En lo alto del templo hay una jarra de piedra gigante. La gente antes creía que dentro se escondía un tesoro. Pero Polly ya conocía la verdad. El verdadero tesoro era la propia piedra.

The little pink rosefinch came back one more time and sang to her from a carved column. Polly touched the warm rose-red wall with her wing, very gently, one last time.

El pequeño pinzón rosado regresó una vez más y le cantó desde una columna tallada. Polly tocó el muro cálido y rosado con su ala, con mucha suavidad, por última vez.

Then she flew up and out of the canyon, high over the open desert. Below her, the crack became a thin dark line again. A twenty minute walk. Seven wonderful days. Polly carried the colour of the rose-red stone with her, all the way home.

Luego alzó el vuelo y salió del cañón, muy por encima del desierto abierto. Debajo de ella, la grieta volvió a convertirse en una fina línea oscura. Un paseo de veinte minutos. Siete días maravillosos. Polly llevó consigo el color de la piedra rosada, durante todo el camino a casa.
