The Town of Golden Stone

Polly flew down into the old town at last. Narrow streets wound between low white houses, and her wings almost touched the walls on both sides.

Por fin Polly bajó volando al casco antiguo. Las calles estrechas serpenteaban entre casas bajas y blancas, y sus alas casi tocaban las paredes a ambos lados.

In the middle of the town stood a great church. It looked more like a castle than a church, with high walls, a tall tower, and battlements running along the top.

En el centro del pueblo se alzaba una gran iglesia. Parecía más un castillo que una iglesia, con muros altos, una torre alta y almenas a lo largo de la parte de arriba.

It was built from golden stone too. The same stone from the cave by the sea had built the church, and the windmills on the hill as well. Now Polly finally understood where all that carved rock had gone.

También estaba construida con piedra dorada. La misma piedra de la cueva junto al mar había levantado la iglesia, y también los molinos de la colina. Ahora Polly por fin entendía adónde había ido toda aquella roca cortada.

Down at the port, a fisher sat beside his boat and mended his nets with quick hands. The morning catch shone silver in the sun. Polly called out a cheerful hello and flew on along the water.

Abajo en el puerto, un pescador sentado junto a su barca remendaba las redes con manos rápidas. La pesca de la mañana brillaba plateada al sol. Polly saludó alegre y siguió volando junto al agua.
