The Carved Cave

Polly flew back down towards the sea. At the bottom of the cliff, right at the waterline, a dark cave opened in the rock. People call it the Cova Tallada, the carved cave.

Polly bajó volando otra vez hacia el mar. Al pie del acantilado, justo en la línea del agua, una cueva oscura se abría en la roca. La gente la llama la Cova Tallada, la cueva cortada.

Inside, the walls were strangely flat and straight. Long ago, people cut this stone out by hand, block by block. Polly could still see the marks their old tools had left in the rock.

Dentro, las paredes eran extrañamente planas y rectas. Hace mucho tiempo, la gente cortó esta piedra a mano, bloque a bloque. Polly todavía podía ver las marcas que sus viejas herramientas habían dejado en la roca.

The stone around her glowed warm and golden. Half of the cave was solid rock, and the other half was clear blue sea that moved gently in and out.

La piedra a su alrededor brillaba cálida y dorada. La mitad de la cueva era roca sólida, y la otra mitad era un mar azul y claro que entraba y salía suavemente.

Light came in through the mouth of the cave and danced across the water and the walls. Polly touched the cool stone with her wing. She wanted to remember the colour of this golden rock.

La luz entraba por la boca de la cueva y bailaba sobre el agua y las paredes. Polly tocó la piedra fresca con el ala. Quería recordar el color de aquella roca dorada.
