The Mountain Garden

In the morning the air smelled sweet and dry. Polly walked slowly through the low silver-green bushes that covered the side of the mountain.

Por la mañana el aire olía dulce y seco. Polly caminaba despacio entre los arbustos bajos de color verde plata que cubrían la ladera de la montaña.

She brushed past rosemary and thyme, and the smell of the plants followed her everywhere she went. People say this mountain is a famous garden, and now she understood why.

Rozó al pasar el romero y el tomillo, y el olor de las plantas la siguió a todas partes. Dicen que esta montaña es un jardín famoso, y ahora ella entendía por qué.

Hundreds of wild plants grow on these slopes. Some of them are so rare that they grow almost nowhere else in the world.

Cientos de plantas silvestres crecen en estas laderas. Algunas son tan raras que casi no crecen en ningún otro lugar del mundo.

A small fan palm grew between the rocks, and pine trees leaned over the pale stone. Polly sat down in their shade and listened to the wind moving through the branches.

Un pequeño palmito crecía entre las rocas, y los pinos se inclinaban sobre la piedra clara. Polly se sentó a su sombra y escuchó el viento moverse entre las ramas.
