The Roof of the World

In the morning Polly flew to the top of the forest. On the ground it is dark and still. But up high it was full of sun. Leaves shone and flowers hung in the air. Polly's blue-teal wings flashed. This top part is the canopy.

På morgonen flög Polly upp till skogens topp. Nere på marken är allt mörkt och stilla. Men här uppe var det fullt av sol. Löven glänste och blommorna hängde i luften. Pollys blågröna vingar blixtrade. Den här övre delen är krontaket.

Most rainforest animals live up here. Monkeys ran along the branches. Sloths hung still and ate leaves slowly. Birds of many colors flew from tree to tree. They almost never touch the ground.

Nästan alla djur i skogen lever här uppe. Apor sprang längs grenarna. Sengångare hängde stilla och åt löv långsamt. Fåglar i många färger flög från träd till träd. De rör nästan aldrig marken.

It was very loud and bright. Parrots and toucans called from the high branches. Their feathers were red, gold, and blue. Polly flew with them. Here her bright colors were normal.

Det var mycket högljutt och ljust. Papegojor och tukaner ropade från de höga grenarna. Deras fjädrar var röda, gyllene och blå. Polly flög med dem. Här var hennes granna färger helt vanliga.

One giant tree stood high above the rest. Polly flew to the top and rested. She could see the forest in every direction. Far away, grey rain fell on the green.

Ett jättestort träd stod högt över de andra. Polly flög upp och vilade. Hon kunde se skogen åt alla håll. Långt borta föll grått regn på det gröna.
