Polly's Trip to Venice

As the sun went down, Polly the parrot flew over Venice. The city looked like it was floating on the sea. Old buildings with beautiful designs lined the canals. Polly's colorful wings stood out against the soft colors of the buildings. Church bells rang as she arrived, mixing with a gondolier's song. Polly landed on a stone railing by the Grand Canal. She watched the boats move up and down the water. Venice was special because it was always connected to the water. Each wave and reflection seemed to tell a story. Polly looked at the busy Rialto Market nearby. Vendors shouted in Italian, selling fresh fruits and spices. The air smelled like fresh bread and the sea. Polly saw a young woman by the canal. She looked worried and held a map. It seemed like she was unsure where to go. Polly felt she should help the woman. Maybe she could be a friend and guide in this city of dreams.

Καθώς ο ήλιος έδυε, η Πόλλυ ο παπαγάλος πέταξε πάνω από τη Βενετία. Η πόλη έμοιαζε να επιπλέει στη θάλασσα. Παλιά κτίρια με όμορφα σχέδια στολίζαν τα κανάλια. Τα πολύχρωμα φτερά της Πόλλυ ξεχώριζαν ανάμεσα στα απαλά χρώματα των κτιρίων. Οι καμπάνες των εκκλησιών χτυπούσαν καθώς έφτασε, ανακατεύοντας με το τραγούδι ενός γονδολιέρη. Η Πόλλυ προσγειώθηκε σε μια πέτρινη κουπαστή δίπλα στο Μεγάλο Κανάλι. Παρακολουθούσε τα καράβια να κινούνται πάνω-κάτω στο νερό. Η Βενετία ήταν ξεχωριστή γιατί ήταν πάντα συνδεδεμένη με το νερό. Κάθε κύμα και αντανάκλαση έμοιαζαν να λένε μια ιστορία. Η Πόλλυ κοίταξε την πολυσύχναστη Αγορά Ριάλτο εκεί κοντά. Οι πωλητές φώναζαν στα ιταλικά, πουλώντας φρέσκα φρούτα και μπαχαρικά. Ο αέρας μύριζε φρέσκο ψωμί και θάλασσα. Η Πόλλυ είδε μια νεαρή γυναίκα δίπλα στο κανάλι. Έδειχνε ανήσυχη και κρατούσε έναν χάρτη. Φαινόταν να μην είναι σίγουρη πού να πάει. Η Πόλλυ ένιωσε ότι έπρεπε να βοηθήσει τη γυναίκα. Ίσως μπορούσε να γίνει φίλη και οδηγός σε αυτήν την πόλη των ονείρων.
