Above the Valley

Polly flew into Yosemite. The wind smelled of pine. Tall cliffs were on both sides. A river was below.

Polly a zburat în Yosemite. Vântul mirosea a pin. Stânci înalte erau de ambele părți. Un râu curgea dedesubt.

She climbed high. The valley looked like a big U cut in stone. Long ago, ice made it this shape. The ice pushed through and ground the floor flat.

Ea s-a ridicat sus. Valea arăta ca un mare U tăiat în piatră. Cu mult timp în urmă, gheața a modelat-o așa. Gheața a împins și a netezit podeaua.

She flew to El Capitan. The cliff was very tall. Two tiny climbers were on the rock face.

A zburat spre El Capitan. Stânca era foarte înaltă. Doi cățărători mici erau pe fața stâncii.

Polly perched on a pine tree. The needles smelled like butterscotch. She watched the climbers. They moved slowly and carefully.

Polly s-a așezat pe un pin. Acele miroseau a caramel. Ea a privit cățărătorii. Se mișcau încet și cu grijă.

A ranger's truck went up the road below. Polly thought about riding with a ranger one day.

She flew down slowly. A big bird called a turkey vulture rose past her on warm air. Polly watched it climb.

A coborât încet. O pasăre mare numită vultur curcan s-a ridicat pe lângă ea pe aerul cald. Polly a privit cum urcă.

At the valley floor, the air was warm and dim. Polly landed on a huge fallen pine tree. Moss was on it.

La podeaua văii, aerul era cald și întunecat. Polly a aterizat pe un pin uriaș căzut. Pe el era mușchi.

The Merced River ran past. The water was brown from melting snow. Polly put her yellow feet in the cold water. It made her toes ache.

Râul Merced curgea pe lângă. Apa era maronie de la zăpada topită. Polly și-a pus picioarele galbene în apa rece. I-a făcut degetele să doară.

A sign said SHUTTLE TO VISITOR CENTER. Polly flew to the bus stop.

Un semn spunea AUTOBUZ SPRE CENTRUL DE VIZITATORI. Polly a zburat către stația de autobuz.

The shuttle was a green bus. A ranger was the driver. She opened the door for Polly.

Autobuzul era verde. Un ranger era șoferul. Ea a deschis ușa pentru Polly.

Polly hopped onto a railing inside. The bus drove. El Capitan moved slowly past the window.

Polly a sărit pe o bară din interior. Autobuzul a pornit. El Capitan trecea încet pe lângă fereastră.

At the last stop, Polly tucked her head under her wing. She slept.

La ultima oprire, Polly și-a băgat capul sub aripă. A adormit.
